The early days
Well it all started in the 80's. Dad brought home our first beagle--a female grade dog. From that point on a love for beagles and rabbit hunting was born. In the early years we hunted for meat. Rabbits, squirrels, and deer were a staple in the Miskimen kitchen. That one dog quickly turned into a pack of beagles and many rabbits lost their lives to that early pack. But as so often happens the three sons of the family grew up and left out on their own. It would be almost twenty years before the love of beagles and rabbit hunting would reestablish itself as a part of Miskimen lifestyle.
A new beginning
Sometime around the turn of the century Dad would once again bring home two grade dogs. These dogs were hunted over and did fairly well the first year. Shortly after this we discovered the NKC Little Pack World Hunt almost in our backyard. After attending a couple of casts we decided that we could do this. After researching and watching different bloodlines Dad decided to contact Branko Kennels for our first AKC registered beagles. After this it became an addiction. ( Just ask my wife, or my mother) We now trial and hunt the kind of dogs we enjoy, honest mouths, brains, lots of hunt, and a desire to catch.
Living and growing up in and around Boonville, In. has afforded us the opportunity to train and hunt on arguably the best rabbit habitat in the world. From our early days of hunting private farm fencerows to the big open running of the coal mine reclaim property that we now frequent, the running and rabbit population is as good here as anywhere else in the country.
Here are some classic hounds found in many of our pedigrees.
